Generally, it is a good tip to never clean any metal part while it is hot. The atomic
structure of metal changes as the temp changes. If you cool the metal down too
quickly the atoms will end up in a tighter pattern. This tempers the metal and changes
its properties.
With wheels, a cleaner can increase the cooling process and cause a stain which
will be almost impossible to remove. If you have ever tempered steel, you will see
the color changing as the atoms re-arrange themselves. Don't take the risk of applying
a liquid cleaner to hot wheels or the cooling effect could leave a stain.
You also run the risk of burning the cleaner which will also leave
a stain, but this stain can be remove, just might take some time.
Let your wheels air cool and then clean them up.
